Submarine Quarters

For this piece I wanted to further develop my skills in environment art, with a focus on hard-surface modeling, material creation and lighting. I worked primarily with a mid-poly workflow, using tileable textures and shader setups. To add detail and variation, I made use of masks, choosing to bake assets only when necessary.

The environment is based on the U3 Submarine located in Malmö, which I visited multiple times throughout the project. It served as a great visual and inspirational reference during my work. I also referenced a lot of archival photos from when the submarine was in operation and used this to create a more historically authentic environment. This gave me a good foundation for the worldbuilding and environmental storytelling of my piece.

I absolutely loved working on this project! It was a very fun challenge to work with the juxtaposition of a cold and claustrophobic environment being homely and welcoming.

Special thanks to my classmates for amazing feedback and guidance!
